The issues I think will be important in the North East in the run-up to the European elections in 2004:

1. Jobs – not claiming our full allocation of Regional Funds is costing us jobs;
2. Enlargement and its effects on the Region;
3. Joining the Euro, how will this affect us?
4. Reform of CAP and the future of our fishing industry.
   

My aims if elected as Liberal Democrat MEP for the North East:

1. Make the most of the opportunities open to us in the EU;
2. Reform the CAP and help our farmers and the fishing industry;
3. Support enlargement of the EU, with proper safeguards;
4. Hold a referendum on Britain joining the Euro as soon as possible;
5. Stronger links between the North East and similar Regions in other EU countries;
   

My key tasks if selected as a candidate on the party list for the European elections would be to:

1. Raise funds;
2. Increase media coverage for Lib Dem and European issues;
3. Enthuse Lib Dem members throughout the region and keep them fully informed;
4. Spread the word to “non political” groups and individuals;
5. Motivate Lib Dem members and helpers to get our vote out.
