With Chris Foote Wood as our No. 1 candidate again, we can win one of the four North East Euro seats in 2004.
Chris was our lead candidate in the last Euro elections of 1999 when we came within 2,161 votes of winning a seat. We had the BEST LIB DEM RESULT in the country! With PR voting, we missed out only because the North East has just four seats and other regions have up to 11 seats.

Chris has lived mainly in Durham but also in Northumberland and on Tyneside. He has worked in all those three areas and on Teesside. CHRIS KNOWS EVERY PART OF THE REGION. As well as being a vastly experienced and effective European and Parliamentary candidate, Chris has been a Regional Officer of the Party for many years and is currently Regional President.

Chris has held many Party positions, including National Executive, Union of Liberal Students and National League of Young Liberals (1960s); Regional Executive, Northern Region (1960s to date); currently President of the Northern Regional Party and Chair, Bishop Auckland Branch.

Chris has been a campaigner for the Liberal Party/Liberal Democrats continuously since helping his father Stanley Wood (Liberal Agent) in the General Elections of 1950 and 1951. Since re-forming the Bishop Auckland Constituency Party in 1972, Chris has been deeply involved in every aspect of local campaigning.

Chris has been a Bishop Auckland/Wear Valley District Councillor for over 35 years (1967 to date), a Durham County Councillor for 12 years, and a Dene Valley Parish Councillor for nearly three years (2000 to date). Chris has been Leader of Wear Valley Council (six years), and is currently Group Leader on Wear Valley Council and Chairman of Dene Valley Parish Council.
