STEVEN FORSTER
Steven Forster is a sculptor from the North East of England
who for the past 14 years has been living and working in Barcelona, Spain.
After achieving a BA.Hons 1st at Bristol Faculty of Art and Design (1980-1983)
he worked in London until 1989, exhibiting extensively in London and throughout
the U.K, as well as other countries, in particular with Anatol Orient
Gallery and the Crafts Council (he was selected onto the Crafts Council
Index 1984.) Also to note are; various commissions to design and construct
work for outside events at the South Bank Centre, London - a prize winner
in GLC Spirit of London painting competition,- selection for the Decorative
Arts Awards 1988 at Sotheby’s (see C.V. for more information)
In 1989 he was awarded a scholarship, for one year extended
to two, from the Spanish Government to study sculpture at Barcelona University.
In addition to numerous exhibitions in Catalonia and Spain, he has executed
various public sculptural interventions, for example:-
Work with the “Drap Art Association” (an artist run recycling
project of which he was a founder member ), organising 24hr recycle art
marathons (1996/1997) in conjunction with the Museum of Contemporary Art,
Barcelona (MACBA) and the Centre de Cultura Contemporani de Barcelona
(CCCB).
Sound sculpture installation “Fontanaerea”
for the International Festival de Musics Contemporanis de Barcelona 1997.
Movement and light sculptures “Metak”- Arte
Nagusia, Bilbao (Aug 2003) and intervention for “GREC” festival,
CCCB, Barcelona (June 2003).
Apart from sculpture, video, drawing and painting, a great interest in
music and performance has led to experimentation in other areas, such
as:-
Music projects ie. Veivi Gisus Urkestra- a hybrid of music/actions/ multiple
projections- performances include Sonar Festival Barcelona, Batofar Paris.
Collaborations with experimental theatre groups such as Konic Teatre,
Natura Morte, theatrical installation, Serpentine Gallery London and Sitges
International Festival of theatre.
Illustration work - recently published “Diccionario Inconveniente”
