The Requirement

Blackstock Market is a vibrant, multi-use venue located in Liverpool, combining bars, food vendors, a main stage area, rooftop terraces, and live entertainment spaces under one roof. The team behind the venue approached Adlib to deliver a fully integrated audio and lighting system capable of supporting both background music and live performance, with seamless control across several unique environments.

Given the diversity of spaces; from the rooftop garden to the main atrium and multiple bars. The venue required a system that was zoned, consistent in audio quality, and aesthetically integrated. The solution also had to account for a mix of indoor and outdoor usage, all while being intuitive for non-technical staff to operate.

The Solution

Adlib delivered a comprehensive audio, lighting, and rigging system designed to provide high-quality coverage and consistent control across all operational zones within the venue.

Audio

Each zone received a tailored audio solution based on its specific layout and intended use.

In the Front Bar, a flown PA system was deployed using L-Acoustics A15 Wide and A15 Focus loudspeakers with KS21 subwoofers, powered by LA4X amplifiers. This provided clarity and headroom for DJ sets and late-night programming without overwhelming the space.

The Main Atrium, which includes a food court and performance stage, was treated as the venue’s central hub. Left and right hangs of A15 Wide and Focus boxes provided full-range coverage, complemented by four KS21 subwoofers on the floor. Amplification was delivered using LA12X units, ensuring enough power for live band reinforcement and hosted events.

For the Balcony and Bar areas, a mix of X12 speakers for low-level delay and A15 units for high-level coverage ensured consistent audio quality, particularly near the stairwell. LA4X amplifiers were used throughout to power the system effectively.

The Top Bar utilised compact X8 speakers, powered by LA4X, to provide background audio with even distribution and minimal visual impact.

On the Roof Garden, the system combined two A15i Wide loudspeakers with two KS21i subs, delivering full-range coverage for outdoor events and gatherings. Distributed X8i loudspeakers, powered by LA2Xi amplifiers, ensured uniform audio across all seating areas. Weatherised EV 1152-95PIb loudspeakers were installed as stage monitors to support rooftop performances.

Lighting

Lighting was delivered as a complete system spanning indoor, outdoor, and performance spaces, with control and distribution unified across zones using QuickQ racks and Chauvet Net-X-II infrastructure.

The Roof Garden lighting rig included Chauvet COLORdash PARs, COLORado fixtures, and Rogue Outcast Spot profiles. These IP-rated fixtures were selected for their performance in outdoor environments and were mounted to a custom black powder-coated truss structure using M290-HD Milos Truss.

In the Front Bar, roof panel washes were created using COLORdash Batten Quad 12 fixtures. Feature lighting for the waterfall and artwork was delivered by Ovation E-910FC profiles fitted with 15–30° and 25–50° lenses. Four Maverick Force 2 Profile movers and six Rogue Outcast 2 Hybrid units provided dynamic lighting effects, all controlled via a central QuickQ rack with GeNetix 10Scene Wall Plates for local control.

The Central Atrium (Stage/Foodcourt) featured a versatile performance lighting package including COLORdash PARs, COLORado washes, Rogue R3 Spots, Strike Array blinders, and Ovation E-910FCs for front light. Haze effects were delivered using Amhaze Eco units, giving the stage sufficient atmosphere for lighting definition during live sets.

Additional architectural lighting on the roof and surrounding areas was provided via COLORdash battens, further enhancing the venue’s appearance during evening events.

Rigging

Bespoke rigging solutions were designed and installed across key areas. In the Main Atrium, a custom L-shaped truss structure was built using M290-HD Milos truss to support performance lighting and AV equipment. The Roof Garden included custom trussing integrated into powder-coated black steelwork, offering a visually discrete but highly functional solution for mounting lighting and audio systems.

Outcome

The result is a visually cohesive, technically robust system that adapts to the venue's multi-purpose use. Whether hosting a DJ set, live acoustic show, rooftop gathering, or casual dining experience, Blackstock Market now benefits from even audio coverage, dynamic lighting, and a control system that allows staff to operate different zones with ease.

The integration of L-Acoustics loudspeakers, Chauvet lighting fixtures, and flexible control infrastructure ensures the space remains future-proof and rider-compliant for touring acts. The project reflects Adlib’s focus on combining premium technical design with real-world operational ease, delivered on time and ready to scale with the venue’s ambitions.
