Full-scale technical solution at TRNSMT's main stage

The Requirement

TRNSMT Festival returned to Glasgow Green in July 2025, once again bringing thousands of fans and a packed artist schedule to the heart of the city. As in previous years, the main stage required a full-scale technical solution across audio, lighting, video, and rigging, designed to accommodate a wide range of performers, enable fast changeovers, and meet the expectations of touring headline acts.

With a tight schedule across multiple days, systems needed to be reliable, efficient to deploy, and adaptable to changing weather conditions. All departments were delivered as part of a coordinated solution, with a focus on achieving consistency and clarity across performances.

Lighting

The lighting package was built around a high-output, festival-standard rig that supported all daytime acts and all headliners. The flown system was constructed using Total Fabrications OV40 truss and Tyler GT Plus pre-rig, allowing for efficient cabling and pre-assembly.

Key lighting and effects were delivered using a mix of 48 Martin MAC Ultra Performance and 26 MAC Ultra Wash fixtures. 18 Martin MAC Aura PXLs were used to introduce colour and movement across the rig, while 34 SGM Q8 strobes and 76 Chauvet Strike Array 2 units provided punch and audience effects. Followspot duties were handled by four Robospot systems, enabling remote tracking of performers without requiring traditional FOH positions.

Control for the entire system was managed through two grandMA3 full-size consoles, offering redundancy and flexibility for incoming LDs and guest operators.

Video

The main stage visual design centred around a large-format LED wall and IMAG setup, providing a strong visual backdrop and clear camera shots throughout the day. A 15-metre by 8-metre upstage screen, built from ROE Vanish 8, handled content playback, branded visuals, and live camera feeds.

Flanking the stage were 8-metre by 10-metre IMAG screens, constructed using Unilumin UpadIIIH05 panels, offering clear visibility for audiences across the arena.

The camera system included three Panasonic UC4000 4K HDR broadcast cameras, positioned for clean stage coverage. Signal routing and screen control were handled via a Barco E2 4K screen management system, allowing the video team to manage content, inputs, and resolution changes on the fly.

Audio

Audio delivery was based on the system, developed specifically for the show's format, throughout our involvement in the festival. The main PA included L-Acoustics K1 and K2 arrays, with K1-SB subs flown and KS28 subs ground-stacked across the front of the stage. A15 and KARA II cabinets were used for front and out fill, ensuring consistent coverage across the audience area.

Three delay hangs of K2 were installed further into the arena to maintain level and clarity at distance.

Four DiGiCo Quantum 338 consoles were used across front-of-house and monitor positions, providing high channel counts and flexible routing. A mix of DiGiCo SD-Racks and Yamaha RPio units supported stage I/O, while artist monitoring was handled via a combination of IEM systems and on-stage monitoring infrastructure.
