"I would just like to say thanks to all at Adlib as you’ve made this a painless transaction and have gone above and beyond to help us achieve our goal. I am sure we will be doing business again sometime.”

- Mark Noutch, Newark Palace Theatre

The Requirement

John Gaddass at Newark & Sherwood District Council first contacted Adlib in July 2016, looking to renew the installed audio system at Newark’s 600-seat Palace Theatre, originally built as a picture house in the 1920s. As part of this renewal, venue Technical Manager Mark Noutch wanted to replace their existing front-of-house console and audio system, opting for Midas’ Pro3 console and EM Acoustics HALO-C system respectively.

Mark also wanted to expand on the local I/O available at the mix position, adding a DL441 mic/line input card to facilitate this. The current setup allows for the full 56 channels of microphone input that the console will support, with the local I/O at the console end giving them 16 inputs and 8 outputs (including the added card), then a DL251 stage box providing 48 inputs and 16 outputs via two 75m runs of CAT6 cable.

The Solution

The Pro3 not only provides Mark and crew with the ability to mix the theatrical shows hosted by the venue all year round, but also provides them with a front-of-house console capable of mixing the wide range of touring musical acts that come to perform.

The final front of house system comprises two seven box hangs of HALO-C, with one EMS-118 subwoofer per side, powered by two AQ-10 amplifiers with processing from two DCS48s. The rest of the venue is catered-for by twelve EMS-51s for the front-fills and balconies and two EMS-129s for rear fills, powered by the venue’s existing MC2 amplifiers.

The Result

Mark and his team were delighted with the results - “I’m proud to say that we now have the best sound system of any venue in the area!”. Adlib Installations Director Roger Kirby paid the team a visit following delivery of the equipment to ensure seamless integration of the new system into the venue.
