Overview
Adlib supplied audio control packages and large-format loudspeaker systems for the UK, European, Canadian, and North American legs of 5 Seconds of Summer’s world tour. The project delivered a standardised control and PA system capable of maintaining identical workflow and acoustic consistency across arenas and outdoor amphitheatre environments worldwide.

Executing a multi-leg world tour across distinct international territories required dedicated audio control infrastructure built specifically for regional power standards. Rather than attempting to adapt a single universal rig, the tour specified two distinct control packages: one tailored to 240V UK and European grid standards, and a second configured natively for 110V North American deployments. The technical brief demanded matching mixing surfaces at Front of House and Monitors, redundant DSP processing, dedicated multi-track recording systems, and a high-channel-count RF infrastructure for both territories.

Mixing workflows were centered around two DiGiCo Quantum 338 Pulse consoles located at Front of House and Monitor positions, each connected via optical loops to two DiGiCo SD Racks on stage. Both positions were equipped with redundant Waves Extreme DSP processing servers alongside Mac mini multi-track recording rigs.
At Front of House, digital processing was complemented by a premium analogue outboard rack incorporating hardware from SSL, Neve, API, Empirical Labs, and Sonicfarm, alongside Bricasti M7 stereo reverberation units. The monitor position utilised a dedicated rack of Neve analogue processing to refine on-stage mixes.

To address differing regional voltage requirements without compromising hardware performance, Adlib prepped two dedicated control packages:

To accommodate transatlantic touring demands, Adlib engineered a custom dual-voltage 240V and 110V power distribution package, ensuring all rack hardware operated seamlessly regardless of local venue power supplies.
The main PA was driven by an L-Acoustics line array system managed via an Adlib master control rack. System drive and matrix routing were executed using an Outline Newton multi-source processor coupled with an L-Acoustics P1 AVB audio processor and measurement platform.
The flown array configuration consisted of:
Ground-stacked sub-bass was delivered by 18 x L-Acoustics KS28 high-power subwoofers. Front fill and localsed coverage were provided by 2 x L-Acoustics A15 Wide constant curvature enclosures and 18 x L-Acoustics X8 coaxial point-source speakers distributed along the stage lip.

The global audio deployment for 5 Seconds of Summer provided a seamless, high-headroom touring platform across the UK, Europe, Canada, and North America. By preparing two region-specific control packages prepped to meet exact local electrical specifications, Adlib eliminated power incompatibility issues while maintaining identical mixing workflows, RF stability, and sonic consistency across every venue on the world tour.
