As part of an ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality live performances across Fife, the Lochgelly Centre, a well-established multi-use arts venue, sought to enhance its in-house technical infrastructure to meet the demands of touring theatre, music, and community productions. The brief was to provide a flexible system capable of accommodating a wide range of performances while maintaining ease of use for in-house technicians and visiting engineers alike.
With an expanding programme of professional and local productions, the Centre required modern, robust audio and lighting systems, as well as improved rigging and control capabilities that could streamline turnaround times between events.
Adlib worked in close consultation with the client to deliver a comprehensive technical upgrade tailored to the unique requirements of the Lochgelly Centre. From audio and lighting through to rigging and control infrastructure, each element of the system was chosen to enhance both creative possibilities and day-to-day operational efficiency.
To ensure excellent coverage and clarity throughout the auditorium, Adlib supplied and installed an L-Acoustics KIVA II loudspeaker system, chosen for its compact footprint and high-fidelity output. Low-end reinforcement was delivered via KS21i subwoofers, creating a warm and impactful sound ideal for everything from musical theatre to amplified concerts.
The system was powered using a combination of L-Acoustics LA4X and LA12X amplifiers, providing the flexibility and DSP power needed for precise tuning and scalability.
At the heart of the control system was a DiGiCo Quantum 225 console, paired with an MQ rack, offering powerful processing, intuitive workflow, and compatibility with touring productions. This provided both visiting engineers and house technicians with a familiar and highly capable front-of-house mixing solution.
To support a variety of lighting designs and accommodate both traditional and LED-based fixtures, the venue’s dimming infrastructure was upgraded with ETC Colorsource 24-channel dimmers, integrated with an ETC Ion XE20 lighting console for programming and playback.
The moving light package featured an extensive array of Martin fixtures, providing versatility and dynamic visual possibilities across genres. This included:
This mix of LED and discharge fixtures allowed the venue to offer modern, energy-efficient lighting design tools suitable for theatre, dance, and live music.
A key upgrade was the introduction of an ETC Prodigy P2-600 winch system, controlled via the ETC QuickTouch handheld preset system, offering safe, programmable flying for lighting bars and scenery. Additional rigging support was provided via Gebuwin TW-300 manual winches and Chainmaster 500kg chain hoists, giving the venue greater flexibility for bespoke rigging solutions.
Structural elements included Milos M290 Quatro truss, supporting both flown lighting and additional show elements. Signal distribution was handled using a Swisson XND8 network-to-DMX node, which enabled simple, scalable control of multiple universes across the venue.
A Guardian 4-channel chain hoist controller rounded out the rigging system, offering safe, centralised control of the Chainmaster motors.
