The Requirement

Italian pianist and composer Ludovico Einaudi returned to the UK in 2025 for an extended tour, including a record-breaking five consecutive shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Known for his minimalist, emotive compositions, Einaudi’s performances are as much about visual atmosphere as they are about musical precision.

The production team required a fully integrated technical package that could deliver subtle, theatrical visuals in prestigious venues without detracting from the performance. The lighting design needed to complement the delicacy of the music, while video support was critical for audience engagement in larger rooms, such as Manchester’s Co-op Live. Across the tour, consistency was key, with each venue requiring the same technical standards delivered under tight schedules and minimal disruption.

The Solution

Adlib supplied a full touring package covering lighting, video, rigging, and audio, designed in collaboration with Einaudi’s production team to maintain the elegance and technical precision his shows are known for.

The rig was designed to be flexible enough for large concert halls, outdoor auditoriums and large arenas alike, with the multiple nights at the iconic Royal Albert Hall and Cavea, part of the Parco della Musica complex, representing the highlights of the tour.

Lighting

Lighting was led by Ben Caunt (Lighting Crew Chief), with Lighting Technicians James Bailie, Sandra Glowacka, and Tim Eastham supporting system setup and operation. The design prioritised soft texture, colour depth, and quiet fixture operation.

The lighting package included:

Control was managed through two grandMA3 light consoles, with distribution via three 72-way Socapex distros.. Cirro MK3 hazers and TMB ProFans were used to add a gentle atmospheric layering across the stage space.

Rigging infrastructure included 18 x 8ft Tyler Truss Systems GY Plus pre-rig trusses and 18 x Total Fabrications 2m lighting ladders, ensuring efficient load-ins and maintaining a clean stage look. A custom 15m x 9m rear projection surface provided a neutral canvas for Lighting Designer Francesco Trambaioli to create beautiful gradients with wash fixtures and cast subtle ambient colour into the mood of Einaudi’s compositions.

Video

Video was overseen by Francis White-Robinson (Video Crew Chief / PTZ Operator), supported by a dedicated team including Nathan Gray (Racks Engineer), Stuart Hurst, Laura Holt, Greg Vickers, and Ollie Hurst.

Camera work featured a hybrid system of PTZ and broadcast cameras to allow for unobtrusive coverage of the performance:

Control and switching were run through Adlib’s 4K Ross Carbonite PPU, paired with a custom CCU system, delivering clean IMAG feeds to the main screen and recording system.

The LED package included 144 ROE BQ4 panels (totalling 72sqm), processed by a Helios 8K rack and remote output racks for signal distribution.

Recording was handled by an 8-way HyperDeck rack, allowing the team to capture and archive each performance in high resolution.

Audio

To accurately replicate the precise compositions that Einaudi is known for across various venues, Adlib used scalable L-Acoustics and DiGiCo systems.

PA System

The main PA was built around L-Acoustics K1 and K2 enclosures, designed to provide consistent, powerful coverage while maintaining the clarity required for piano-led performances.

  • Main & Side Hangs: 28 x L-Acoustics K1 served as the primary arrays, supported by 32 x L-Acoustics K2 utilised for side hangs and delays to ensure uniform distribution in larger arenas.
  • Low Frequency: 16 x KS28 ground-stacked subwoofers provided deep, controlled low-frequency extension.
  • Fill Coverage: To maintain an intimate soundstage for those closest to the performance, the setup included 4 x flown ARCS II in-fills, 2 x A15 Wide out-fills, and 6 x A10 Wide lip-fills across the stage edge.
  • Monitoring: On-stage monitoring was augmented with 2 x X15HiQ enclosures.

Mixing & Control

High-resolution signal management was handled by DiGiCo Quantum 338 consoles at both Front of House (FOH) and Monitors, operated by FOH Engineer Milo Benericetti and Monitor Engineer Roberto Mandia. Both consoles were paired with dedicated SD Racks to handle the tour's complex input requirements with maximum sonic transparency.

Microphones & Monitoring

The stage kit was tailored for acoustic precision and reliability:

  • Microphone Package: A custom package featured DPA 4099 instrument microphones, selected for their ability to capture the natural detail of acoustic instruments.
  • Stage Wireless Monitoring: On-stage monitoring featured D&B M4 wedges. Wireless monitoring was handled by 6 channels of Shure PSM 1000 IEMs using P10R+ packs.
  • RF: Vocal and guest inputs were managed via 2 channels of Shure Axient Digital handhelds equipped with KSM9 capsules. All wireless components utilised Shure rechargeable batteries for consistent performance throughout the tour's rigorous schedule.

Comms & Fibre Transport

To coordinate across departments, Adlib supplied a 10-way Green-Go digital comms system, enabling reliable, cross-venue communication.

Signal distribution relied on a custom Theatrixx 6-way fibre transport system, supporting the growing demand for reliable high-bandwidth interconnects across the touring infrastructure.

Crew & Collaboration

Adlib's touring and in-house teams worked seamlessly alongside Einaudi’s production staff, ensuring the tour remained consistent and technically resilient throughout.

Key technical audio crew for the tour included:

  • Billy Bryson – PA Crew Chief / System Tech
  • Ema Gazdik – Monitor Tech
  • Jamie Sutcliffe – PA
  • Jake Brennan – PA

The Result

Ludovico Einaudi’s 2025 UK tour, and in particular the five-night run at the Royal Albert Hall, showcased a sensitive and elegant integration of music, lighting, and visual storytelling. The audience experienced a fully immersive environment - subtle yet powerful, with every technical element supporting the performance without distraction.

Adlib was proud to contribute to an event where restraint, detail, and technical discipline were paramount, delivering a world-class production experience that respected both the music and the spaces it was performed in.
