The Home Bargains Awards 2023, held at Liverpool's ACC Exhibition Centre, was an annual award show that brought together over 500 attendees to celebrate outstanding achievements within the company. Hosted by Tess Daly and Vernon Kay, with live performances by the RPJ Band and Vernon Kay's DJ set, the event promised an unforgettable experience. Contributing to the event's success were Adlib, event technology specialists, who provided full technical production, including audio, lighting, and video technology, and, for the first time, video wall content for the awards.
Technology Behind the Event
Adlib helped to wow and engage the crowd with cutting edge production equipment. The video setup featured a 16m x 5m video wall comprised of 90 active panels of ROE V8T LED product, delivering eye-popping visuals that guided the audience throughout the evening. The Adlib 4K QLab Rack and Barco E2 flawlessly integrated the video content, ensuring a seamless and visually stunning experience.
Camera screens (IMAG) were provided through a broadcast control system comprised of two Panasonic UC4000 cameras with Canon UJ90 lenses controlled by Adlib’s Helium CCU Engineering Core. A 4K Cobalt PPU system, including a Ross Carbonite Ultra vision mixer, was used for the live cut and broadcast, which used Panasonic PT-RZ21K DLP Projectors projecting onto two 16’ x 9’ screens and complementary NEC LED TVs to take the visual impact of the event to the next level.
The lighting design, provided by Adlib’s in-house design team, created an enchanting atmosphere throughout the venue. With over 250 fixtures like Martin MAC Aura XB, Ayrton Diablo-S Profile, and Robe MegaPointe, the lighting team delivered a dynamic, immersive show that complemented this year’s jungle theme. With the grandMA3 full-size console, the Lighting Operator had full control over the extensive range of lighting fixtures, ensuring captivating moments throughout the awards show.
For the audio system, the Adlib team deployed CODA Audio loudspeakers, including AiRAY and ViRAY speaker elements. The audio quality was crystal-clear, ensuring that every word and musical note reached the audience with precision. The DiGiCo Quantum 225 Mixing Console and SD-Rack provided precise control, guaranteeing an exceptional auditory experience for all attendees.

Whilst Adlib have worked on the Home Bargains awards show before, Adlib's Content & Creative department was invited to craft the visuals for the event for the first time. Utilising the combination of Unreal Engine 5, Cinema 4D, Redshift Render and Adobe After Effects, they created mesmerising jungle-themed visuals, including lifelike foliage that reacted to wind and light, realistic lighting and weather simulation, and breath-taking landscapes, transporting the audience to an immersive jungle environment. The highlight moment for the audience being the living jungle storm scene, which was synchronised with the SGM Q-8 fixture via grandMA3 full-size to give real-life thunder and lightning effects.
This was taken to the next level with custom assets created for Vernon Kay's DJ set. These elements were carefully synchronised with the BPM of the tracks, causing them to pop in and out on the video backdrop as attendees danced late into the night.
Collaborating closely with the technical team, they seamlessly integrated created visuals with the event's audio, lighting, and video technology, resulting in an unforgettable and visually stunning experience that celebrated Home Bargains’ employees and their achievements.
